Editors - Transport Law



Is a professor at Ghent University since 2010.

He specialises in maritime law and esp. international and EU seaport law. From 1990 to 2010, he worked for the University of Antwerp, where he lectured inter alia in maritime and transport law and law of the sea. From 2000 to 2010, Prof. Van Hooydonk chaired the European Institute of Maritime and Transport Law. In 2007, he was appointed Chairman of the Royal Commission for the Reform of Belgian Maritime Law which prepares, on his initiative, a new Maritime Code for Belgium. In 2009, he founded Portius, the world's first ever international and EU port law centre, which is hosted by the University of Ghent and the College of Europe at Bruges and Natolin (Warsaw). Prof. Van Hooydonk is a Titulary Member of the CMI and a member of several professional and scientific associations as well as of editorial boards of legal reviews including Droit Maritime Fran├žais, Journal of International Maritime Law, Jurisprudence du Port d'Anvers and Tijdschrift Vervoer & Recht. In 2009, he was appointed as chair of Flanders Water Heritage, an umbrella organisation for shipping, port and other water-related heritage. Prof. Van Hooydonk has run a niche law firm in Antwerp since 1995.
